The Bavarian-Czech Academic Agency (Bayerisch-Tschechische Hochschulagentur, BTHA) was launched in 2016 following the development report of the Bavaria-Czech border area. It originally used funds provided by the Bavarian State Ministry of Finance, State Development and Homeland and is now supported by the Bavarian State Ministry for Science and the Arts. In the Czech Republic, the main partner is the Czech Ministry for Education, Youth and Sport.
The BTHA is affiliated with the Bavarian Academic Center for Central, Eastern and Southeastern Europe (BAYHOST) and acts as the central contact partner for all aspects of bilateral cooperation between Bavaria and the Czech Republic in the field of higher education.
The main task of the BTHA is to make a significant contribution to the development of a specialist first-class and sustainable academic network in research and teaching by networking, advising and funding the higher education institutions. With a customized approach to funding not only academic exchange at all levels but also the initiation and implementation of research cooperation, the BTHA brings together the academic strengths of both countries.
BTHA funding encompasses grants for study abroad programmes, language courses, summer and winter schools in both countries as well as mobility grants for internships, research travels and excursions. Moreover, it focuses on supporting bilateral academic projects, conferences and research projects in Bavaria and the Czech Republic. The financial support is complemented by various networking and consulting services for students, teachers, researchers as well as for the executives of the Bavarian and Czech universities and academic institutions.
The BTHA enables a wide range of academic exchange in research and education, leading to an increased cooperation between the two countries in higher education and science.
